The well-known Museum of Palaeontology and Archaeology is located in the 13th century castle of Werdringen in the city district Vorhalle, Hagen in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
It is located on the south-eastern edge of the Ruhr area, about 15 km south of Dortmund. Hagen is called “Gate to the Sauerland”, the Montains region south of the Ruhr. This region is one of the historical areas for fossils and archaeology in Germany. North Rhine Westphalia contains the largest number of museums in Europe.
