Haus Opherdicke is a moated castle and former manor in the Wood Eder district of Opherdicke. The house is located to the east of the village on the crest of the Ardeygebirges with a view south to the valley of the Ruhr. After the acquisition by the district of Unna, it was 1980 extensively renovated and restored.
The first mention in the year 1176. Heinrich von Herreke from the Dortmund Count’s house in this year gave the Archbishop of Cologne his beholding to fief, who forgave it to the noble lords of County after Henry’s death.
Until the end of the monarchy in Prussia 1918 was house Opherdicke a Landtag capable estate.
From 1683 to 1687 the old water castle was rebuilt and was given its present shape. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the economic and ancillary buildings were created, which still today in unchanged form limit the inner courtyard. The Castle park in the form of an English garden was designed according to conjecture by the home researcher Reinhold Stirnberg of Maximilian Friedrich Weyhe.
The District of Unna acquired 1980 the House of Opherdicke (excluding agriculture) from the heirs of the O. G. Theodor Rainbow and made it extensively rehabilitated and restored. 2011 took place for the second time after the takeover by the Unna district a period of restoration and aesthetic appreciation. In some exhibition and gallery rooms of the house, art exhibitions are now to be seen, especially with works by the Frank Brabant Collection; Chamber concerts and classical modern exhibitions are also held. The house is also available for private events and meetings.
