Danish sea heroes?
No, not really.
They were both Norwegians, but were part of the Danish-Norwegian navy, which was a reality until 17 October. It was not until May 1814, when Norway and Denmark were separated and thus ended a period of about 400 years in which the two nations sailed under the same flag.
“The fleet was an integral part of the society of the contemporary. The fleet was the place where Danes and Norwegians were very best integrated and the relationship between the Danish and Norwegian sailors was without contradictions. ”
About 600 sailors perished-and among these also Iver Huitfeldt.
