Incredibly, though we are told that VE-Day, 8 May 1945, marked the end of the war in Europe, a functioning German government was permitted to remain in place in northern Germany until 23 May 1945. Known as the ‘Flensburg Government’, discover how it was created and why it outlived the German surrender.
