The case concerns the illegal importation of a minimum of 55 puppies of the English Bulldog and French Bulldog. The puppies have been imported from Poland to Denmark for resale without the convicts having the necessary permits to operate commercial dog trafficking.
In total, two men and one woman are convicted in the case. The two men are from Svendborg and the woman is from Kværndrup. Another woman has been acquitted. The two men are ordered to pay a fine of DKK 100,000 and DKK 80,000 respectively. The convicted woman must pay a fine of DKK 60,000. In the case of the fine, the Court of First Instance paid particular attention to the number of puppies imported without registration as an importer and subsequently sold without authorisation.
The case and the many complexities have meant greater investigative work, explains Prosecutor Karen Lykke Jensen: “The case has taken time to investigate because we have had to identify a large number of buyers, witnesses, sales ads and the 55 puppies that come from several different litters. It has been central for us to create a clear overall picture and to link these many relationships with the accused persons, in order to be able to prove the extent and systematism that has been in the illegal import and subsequent illegal commercial trade with the puppies.”
Although the minimum 55 puppies are illegally imported into the country, they have not been confiscated, but remain by their new owners.
