Illegal cigarette factory unveiled in Denmark

Special Investigation West struck an illegal cigarette factory in Vamdrup, Southern Jutland, where 13 people were arrested.

As part of the targeted investigation into organised and cross-border crime, Special Investigation West on Tuesday evening conducted a major arrest and search operation against an illegal cigarette factory on a rural property near Vamdrup in Southern Jutland.

A total of 13 men aged between 32 and 70 were arrested. Those arrested are all foreigners from Ukraine and Poland respectively, and they have all been charged with aggravated smuggling by smuggling raw tobacco for the illegal production of millions of cigarettes.

“During the action, approximately 11 million cigarettes and a large amount of professional production equipment were seized. It is our opinion that the detainees have produced several million cigarettes on the spot over a long period of time,” said Deputy Police Inspector at Special Investigation West, Morten Vegger.
